On Living, Loving and Leaving: Returning from Travel Quotes

Returning from Travel Quotes | Wanderlust | Inspiration | Truth

I just read the most poignant and insightful article written for the Huffington Post by Emma Kate Codrington. An Australian native, she lived in London for 2 years, and has now just returned “home”.

Having lived in Indonesia, twice, and returned to Australia, twice. I know this feeling all two well. The feeling of hovering, in limbo, between two very distinct and different countries and cultures. Trying to find the bridge, seeking and gathering with others who also are living on that bridge – those who also have husbands from Indonesia, children with milk coffee skin, a love of spicy food and colourful dancing, roving buskers, art galleries in alleyways, and rule-breakers.

If I could have my way, I would live between two countries, spending my summer in Australia, and then running away to Indonesia for the winter. But, when I wake up from my daydream, I realise that if I want to keep my good, respectful, stable and secure job – and save up for the future, tick the boxes that you are supposed to tick – that succumbing to this fantastical whim of wanderlust is simply not possible at this point in my life.

So in the meantime, I will choose one place. One home. When deep down in my soul, I know that I have two real homes. Two important places in this world where I have a connection, friends, family and meaning. And leaving one, or the other, never gets easier.
